March has been a remarkable month for the Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women (EHCW), marked by a series of events celebrating International Women's Day and reinforcing our commitment to empowering women and youth in our community.
International Women's Day Collaboration with the Indian Consulate
On March 8th, EHCW collaborated with the Indian Consulate in Toronto to commemorate International Women's Day. The event featured insightful discussions emphasizing the importance of balance and equality in society.
A notable reflection shared during the event highlighted that while the universe maintains a natural balance, humans often struggle with inequality. However, with optimism, it was expressed that through collaborative efforts, we can restore harmony and acknowledge our interdependence.
Annual 'Sip & Support High Tea' Fundraiser
Culminating the month's celebrations, EHCW hosted its 2nd Annual 'Sip & Support High Tea with a Twist' on March 11th at Castello Ristorante in Vaughan. The sold-out event brought together community members, leaders, and supporters to raise funds for our vital programs. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all attendees and sponsors for making this event a resounding success.

Empowering Stories from Our Community
The event also provided a platform to share inspiring stories of resilience and empowerment:
Judy's Journey: Married at 16 and subjected to abuse, Judy sought refuge with EHCW in 2024. Through our programs, she gained employment as an education assistant and now leads a life free from fear.
Filomina's Triumph: A refugee and survivor of domestic violence, Filomina connected with EHCW in 2023. With our support, she secured housing, completed her nursing exams, and is now employed as a full-time nurse, providing a stable environment for her children.
Youth Ambassadors Making a Difference
Our Youth Ambassadors, Tiara and Tavon Tulock, shared their transformative experiences with EHCW:
Tiara: Emphasized how EHCW became a second home, offering programs that educated her on human trafficking awareness and provided a supportive community. Now a first-year kinesiology student at York University, Tiara credits EHCW for laying the foundation for her aspirations in the medical field.
Tavon: Highlighted the importance of male involvement in addressing issues like human trafficking. Through EHCW's programs, he gained a new perspective and is committed to shaping a future where such concerns are alleviated.
Looking Ahead
The success of these events underscores the vital role of community support in advancing EHCW's mission. As we continue our work, we invite you to stay connected and participate in our upcoming programs and initiatives. Together, we can create a balanced and harmonious society where everyone thrives.
